About Cath

Cath Mason’s poetry was forged in the furnace of an industrial town on the edge of the moors in North West England. Equipped with a B.A. in English & American Literature, she began her working life teaching media studies to teenagers in Liverpool’s inner city. After several years, and oodles of exams, she worked as a lawyer in a large insurance company in the U.K.  In 1995 she moved to the United States with her husband, settling first in Cincinnati, then in Tampa after the birth of their second child.

Cath Mason’s work has been published in both the U.K. and the U.S.

  • "Cherishing a Friendship" appeared in Palm Prints

  • "The Out of Body Experience of a Potato" won the humor prize in Southport Writers' Circle 2012  Poetry Competition.

  • “Paper Cranes” appeared in the U.K. Journal:  Pennine Ink.

  • "Mother and Daughter July 2008" appeared in Literary Mama, May 2013

  • "Dent in the Day" won an Honorable Mention in the Humanities Institute's Third Annual Poetry competition at the University of South Florida, April 2015

  •  "Sudden Breath"  appeared in Sandhill Review , VOL17 published April 2016 by St Leo University.

Of the many things Cath finds magical about poetry, her main fascination is with sounds that feel luscious in the mouth and the way language resonates in the body when read aloud. She loves the way spoken poetry feels intimate because it is carried by the breath and breath is the bridge connecting the speaker/reader of poetry (sometimes across centuries) to its writer.
